Baby steps.  We are not experienced farmers, we are not experts, we are not perfect.  We are a family, we are hard working, we are learning as we go, we are committed to living a more sustainable lifestyle and we are thankful for all we have.

We are hoping to find ways to use the resources that surround us to provide opportunities to support our family by providing nourishment, enjoyment and occasionally income.  We are hoping to share our experience with others who have a similar philosophy of enjoying life's simple pleasures.  We are hoping to make our life count for something based on the legacy we leave behind us.And we're looking forward to sharing it with those around us and documenting it here as it happens.

Our Story

My wife Melissa and I married in August of 1996 after dating for over 4 1/2 years.  We knew shortly after becoming married that we didn't want to waste any time before starting a family.  We were blessed with the birth of our first son, Quinn Patrick in July of 1997.  Soon to follow came our daughter Devan Rose in June of 2001 and our youngest son Tristan Michael in March of 2003.

As we were starting a family, we were also working to find and have the means to afford the property of our dreams.  My wife and I both have an appreciation for a slower pace of life and the simple pleasures afforded by nature.  We felt it was important to raise our children in this type of environment where they could gain a similar appreciation before leaving to make their own marks on the world.  We spent every spare moment for well over 10 years looking for the perfect place to call home.  We've finally found our slice of heaven at Fallen Oak Farm in Dillsboro, IN and we're looking forward to sharing it with those around us and documenting it here as it happens.

Our story is just getting started.

Both my wife and I grew up with access to creeks which created an endless list of fond memories for both of us as children.

Over the years that we spent endlessly searching for our dream property, we would often find creeks to explore to break up the monotony of hours upon hours of driving.  Searching for fossils and looking under rocks for salamanders, frogs and snakes provided hours of enjoyment for us and the kids.  We even snuck in the occasional swim with or without the proper swimming attire.

This mutual respect for creeks led to this becoming a primary requirement when seeking out our farm.  True to form, Fallen Oak Farm has provided us with this requirement and is bordered to the West and the South by a rock that stays wet 10 months out of the year.  There is not shortage of stones to search through and under to find newly discovered wonders.
